FIANZ HALAL Meat Slaughter Process

With over 45 years of experience in Halal certification, FIANZ HALAL ensures that all red meat slaughter in New Zealand is carried out strictly in accordance with Shariah, international Halal standards, and New Zealand regulations. All red meat under FIANZ HALAL certification is exclusively hand slaughtered.

Halal Slaughter Overview

  • Only Halal-permissible animals such as cattle, sheep, and goats are accepted
  • Animals must be alive, healthy, and fit for slaughter at the time of processing
  • Humane handling is applied in line with Shariah and the Animal Welfare Act
  • Animals are positioned respectfully, with care taken to minimise stress

Stunning and Animal Welfare

  • Reversible head-only electrical stunning is permitted
  • Stunning is carefully controlled to ensure the animal remains alive and recoverable
  • Stunning equipment is calibrated and checked regularly under FIANZ HALAL supervision

Hand Slaughter Process

  • Slaughter is performed by a trained, FIANZ HALAL-approved Muslim slaughterman
  • Tasmiya (“Bismillah, Allahu Akbar”) is recited for each individual animal
  • A single, swift cut severs the required vessels, ensuring rapid bleeding
  • Decapitation is not permitted; bleeding must be complete before further processing

Post-Slaughter Controls

  • Complete bleeding is verified to ensure Halal integrity
  • Halal and non-Halal products are strictly segregated throughout processing and storage
  • Continuous supervision ensures full compliance at every stage

FIANZ HALAL Oversight and Assurance

  • Regular MONTHLY plant inspections, audits, and monitoring are conducted by FIANZ HALAL
  • Compliance aligns with the NZ Halal Meat Notice, MPI requirements, and export standards
  • Approved Halal Assurance Systems ensure consistency, traceability, and transparency

FIANZ HALAL certification provides confidence to consumers and global markets that Halal red meat from New Zealand meets the highest standards of Shariah compliance, animal welfare, and integrity.
