The FIANZ Training Academy is the education and capacity‑building arm of FIANZ, New Zealand’s most established and globally recognised Halal certification authority since 1984.

Our Academy exists to raise Halal literacy, strengthen compliance, and develop skilled professionals across the Halal value chain — from production floors to boardrooms, regulators to retailers.

Through structured training, practical guidance, and internationally aligned standards, the Academy plays a critical role in supporting credible Halal assurance, export readiness, and sustainable growth of New Zealand’s Halal economy.

Courses We Offer

PRE-EMPLOYMENT HALAL TRAINING (NO EXPERINCE REQUIRED)

Course Overview:

This introductory programme provides foundational Halal Awareness Training to individuals, offering a thorough understanding of Halal concepts and Shariah law related to Halal slaughter

  • Duration: 2.5 hours theory
  • Fees: $150 per person
  • Format: Online and Classroom (subject to availability)
  • When: 15th and 30th of every month

What is covered:

  • Shariah requirements for Halal slaughtering.
  • Halal slaughtering techniques.
  • Relevant regulations and quality assurance.
  • Overview of audit and certification process.
  • Concept of Halal and haram in Shariah.

Who should attend

  • Individuals wishing to gain employment in the Meat or Halal industry.
  • Those intending to complete the Halal Slaughter Training as part of their professional development.
  • Staff members seeking basic Halal awareness training.

Outcome

Participants will:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Shariah in the production and certification of Halal meat.
  • Understand Halal slaughter requirements for meat processing operations.
  • Produce Halal meat within a compliant meat processing operation

Post-Employment Halal Slaughter Training (NZQA Accredited)

Course Overview:

This NZQA-accredited programme is tailored for Muslim slaughter persons involved in halal slaughter, combining both practical and theoretical learning.

  • Duration: 1 Day
  • Fees: $500 + GST
  • Format: Classroom or Online and Practical
  • When: After employment with Meat Company

What is covered:

  • NZQA Unit Standard 25926: Shariah-based production and certification of Halal food and products.
  • NZQA Unit Standard 21623: Halal slaughter requirements in meat processing.
  • NZQA Unit Standard 25927: Preparing, slaughtering, and processing animals to meet Halal standards.

Who should attend

  • Muslim employees seeking to gain NZQA qualifications in Halal slaughtering. 

Outcome

Participants will:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Shariah requirements in Halal food production.
  • Understand and carry out Halal slaughter processes for meat processing operations.
  • Prepare, slaughter, and process animals to meet Halal compliance standards.
  • Carry out Shariah-compliant operations to produce Halal meat for processing and manufacturing.

TRAINING FOR HALAL QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICERS

Course Overview:

This course provides and understanding of the principles of Halal Processing and Auditing. The trainees will gain the understanding of the definition and concepts of Halal Certification, Primary Processing, Halal Slaughtering of Animals and Halal Auditing

  • Duration: Half-day theory + Post-course work completion
  • Fees: $650.00 +GST
  • Format: Workplace-based
  • When: TBA (arrangement between employer, employee, and assessor)

What is covered:

  • Replace Unit Standard 25927 with 25924 Describe Audit Requirements in the Certification of Halal Food and Food Products

Who should attend

  • The course is designed for people who work in Primary Processing and are involved or are likely to be involved in internal auditing or Halal Quality Assurance or would like to improve their knowledge of Halal Auditing

Outcome

Participants will:

  • Demonstrate the knowledge of Shariah Requirements in Halal Food Production
  • Demonstrate the knowledge of Halal Slaughter Requirements in Meat Processing Operation
  • Demonstrate the knowledge of Halal Audit Process in accordance with Shariah

Internal Halal Auditor / Halal Monitor Training

Course Overview:

This intensive training provides participants with a grounding in Islamic principles of Halal, an understanding of international Halal standards, auditing guidelines, supply chain requirements, and practical audit tools. It combines theory with case studies and practical exercises to prepare participants for internal Halal auditing roles.

Objective

To equip Muslim personnel with the knowledge, skills, and tools required to serve as Halal Monitors, Halal Supervisors, Internal Halal Auditors, or Halal Staff in organisations engaged in Halal-certified production, exports, and local services — in line with Malaysian (MS1500), Indonesian (SJPH/SNI), Singapore (MUIS), GSO, OIC-SMIIC, and international Halal standards.

Module 2 – Halal Concepts & Najis

  • Definitions of Halal, Haram, Mashbooh
  • Najis (minor, major, severe) & cleaning requirements
  • Cross-contamination control

Module 3 – International Halal Standards

  • Malaysian MS1500:2019
  • Indonesian Halal Product
  • Assurance System (SJPH, SNI 99004:2021)
  • Singapore MUIS HC S002 GSO 993
  • Halal Slaughtering requirements
  • OIC/SMIIC standards overview
  • ISO 19011 – Principles of auditing

Module 4 – Ingredients & Halal Critical Control Points

  • Gelatine, enzymes, alcohol/ethanol, additives (carmine, shellac, cysteine, glycerine, etc.)
  • Halal slaughtering principles (with stunning rules)
  • Identification of Halal Critical Control Points (HCCPs)

Module 5 – Halal Audit Process

  • Audit preparation & planning
  • Use of Halal audit checklists
  • Conducting opening & closing meetings
  • Gathering evidence (interviews, observation, documents)
  • Recording & classifying non-conformities
  • Reporting & follow-up Role play / case study

Module 6 – Halal Certification Schemes & Governance

  • Role of national and international Halal authorities (FIANZ, MUIS, MUI, JAKIM, GSO, ESMA)
  • Recognition of Halal certification in export markets

Module 7 – Halal Supply Chain

  • Halal logistics (transport, storage, distribution)
  • Supply chain integrity & traceability
  • Case studies: honey, meat, pharmaceuticals, catering

Assessment & Certification
